Move over Farmer Ben ... Meet Farmer Dave!

The South Coast Gazette posted an article this morning highlighting a Farm Aid panel with produce farmer Dave Purpura, owner of Plato's Harvest in Middleborough, MA. What does this have to moe.? Well, during the panel, Purpura was joined by our very own Al, Rob, and Vinnie.

The panel was part of the Homegrown Village stage of Farm Aid, where Purpura discussed his sucess and qualms with the produce industry.

The message: buy local, support family farmers rang out from both the artists and concert goers.

It's not just about fresh food and sustainable agriculture. Food that's shipped from South America uses up a tremendous amount of natural resources making its way across the continent. moe. guitarist Al Schnier, said, "If we all were part of the equation, supporting local farmers just a bit more, the environmental impact would be remarkable."

Despite ribbing from the band moe. who dubbed him Farmer Dave, Mr. Purpura said it wasn't a mid-life crisis that made him turn from an engineering career to organic farming. "It was kind of planned, it was always my intention."

Al to Tour with the Transamericans

Sorry, I was a bit busy yesterday afternoon and didn't get to the tipline mail, so this story is a day late.

The Al & The Transamericans Myspace page was updated yesterday with all of the information about the shows coming in November. It was also reported on by Jambands.com, which is the link most people sent me. Here is what they wrote up:

With moe. scheduled to spend the rest of the year off the road Al Schnier has confirmed an extended tour with his longtime sideband Al & the Transamericans. The country-rock outfit features a number of familiar faces, including moe.’s Vinnie Amico (drums), Kirk Juhas (keyboardist), Eric Glockler (bass) and Gordon Stone (banjo and pedal steel). The group’s upcoming tour is scheduled to kick off at Utica, NY’s Electric Company on Halloween, before making stops in Albany (11/1), Portland, ME (11/5), Newmarket, NN (11/6), New York (11/7), Teaneck, NJ (11/8), Ithaca, NY (11/10), Pittsburgh (11/11), Annapolis, MD (11/12), Baltimore (11/13), Stroudsburg, PA (11/14) and Syracuse, NY (11/15).

Al & the Transamericans will share the stage with a few different bands along the way, most notably Tea Leaf Green and American Babies. moe.'s only upcoming appearance is at Farm Aid on September 20.
